The UGM Group had their first intake of students complete the NewSAFE Training Early Entry Program on Friday, 8th November 2013.
Students from Morisset High School (NSW) were given the opportunity to experience work in an underground coal mine.
The 5 day training course included theoretical and practical experiences in mining machinery operation, strata support and ventilation techniques. The students also visited the NSW Mines Rescue Service (MRS) virtual reality simulator for a 21st century perspective of mining. All the modules presented were underpinned by risk management principles and hazard identification processes. The object of the course is to give students a taste of the industrial and mining environment and allow them to make an informed decision on their career path.
